Biodegradable geosynthetics

Green thinking and growing environmental awareness have led geosynthetics manufacturers to develop innovative, more environmentally friendly solutions. Hydroseal OÜ is pleased to introduce two of these products in Estonia: a 100% biodegradable mulch mat and an erosion control mat made of 100% sheep wool.

Biodegradable mulch mat – the new standard in weed control

Biodegradable mulch mat is a good alternative to synthetic mats and herbicides. The mat is made from natural plant fibers and is fully compostable, thus providing a 100% environmentally friendly solution to weed control.

The mulch mat is UV-stable, does not require coating and is completely maintenance-free. The expected lifespan is 3-5 years, during which the mat will completely decompose due to temperature and humidity, leaving only compostable material in the soil.

Thanks to its excellent water and air permeability, the mulch mat stimulates the growth of newly planted plants and trees. It is also ideal for installation on slopes, as it also offers protection against erosion.

Wool erosion control mat

In addition to the traditional coconut mat, which is most widely used in erosion control, we are now also offering a mat made from wool. It is made from 100% heat-treated sheep wool. The unique production process does not use PP yarn, net or other binders, but mechanically binds the wool fibres by needle and heat treatment. This 100% natural and biodegradable mat composts completely within two years, leaving only organic material in the soil without microplastics.

Wool mat has good water retention properties, which improves the moisture content of the soil. Hay seed sown under the erosion control mat will germinate evenly and will be protected even during the dry season.
